The Halifax County Breakfast Series

MARK YOUR CALENDAR! The Halifax County Breakfast Series starts in November. The series is open to producers from the entire region and not just Halifax County.

Each meeting runs from 9 am until 11 am and includes breakfast, as well as expert speakers on the following topics:

November 13 – Beef Cattle Genetics, Reproduction, AI & Overall Livestock Health

December 11 – Soil Health & Soil Testing

January 8 – Ag Policy & Conservation Agency Programs

February 12 – Row Crop Production

March 12 – Forestry Management & Generation Next

Please RSVP to 434-476-7923 no later than the Friday before the meeting as we need an accurate count for breakfast. The meetings are free to attend. Each meeting will be held at the Halifax County Agricultural Marketing Center.

The Breakfast Series is presented by: Halifax Soil & Water Conservation District, NRCS, Extension and Halifax County Agricultural Development.

SVMGA Sept 22 Sale Results

There were 136 animals sold Sat. morning, gross sale $14,135.00, net $13.998.00.
The prices per pound were:
kids                 $2.00
cull goats           1.10
lambs                 1.50
cull sheep            .75
Thank you so much to our few faithful volunteers that worked hard to put up panels and make sure the sale ran smoothly.
Don’t forget the meeting Thursday night starts at 6:00

Next Meeting

The August SVMGA meeting is Thursday night August 23rd at 7:00 PM. Past President Greg Wade will discuss managing forages for small ruminants and cattle.  Greg was the 2006 VA Forage and Grassland Council Outstanding Forage Producer of the year for the Southern Piedmont .
